Museum, Oni, Racha, Georgia

We were given a guided tour of this extensive place for only 3 lari each - great deal. I hadn't taken my camera, being sure that photography would not be allowed, but ran back home to get it when I understood this was not the case. Quick, before they change their minds...

These are examples of carving - the top one wood, the other 2 stone - all fragments of 11th century churches, in the wonderfully naive and weird Racha style.

Ushguli, August 2007

A couple of views from the village's main museum windows. Generally one is not allowed to photograph inside, but such angles are permitted.

At the bottom of the top frame is Ushguli school again.

House museum interior, Ushguli, August 2004

Some of the fantastically detailed carved wood items which are practically the only thing one can buy at all in the village. Not cheap, but each a masterpiece. The chair, bottom picture, at left, is the traditional seat of the male head of a Svan household.
